Background:
In the aftermath of the conflict with the ISIS terrorist organization, the Sinjar and Tal Afar districts have become fraught with risks due to landmines and other unexploded ordnances (UXOs). These hazards have inhibited local inhabitants from returning to their areas. Given this, a specialized team from Global Clearance Solutions was commissioned to clear these remnants and restore safety and stability.

Accomplishments:
Within only a year, the project managed to clear over two million square meters and dispose of approximately 2000 ordnances. The team cleared agricultural lands and residential areas, helping to restore peace in the region and enabling locals to return to their homes and daily lives.

Behind the scenes:
The mission of clearing unexploded ordnances is one of the most dangerous tasks, exposing workers to danger daily. Given the grave risks associated with the task, it was crucial for the team to follow strict safety procedures and comprehensive training. Daily work involved exploring the area, identifying the locations of UXOs, carefully removing them, and subsequently safely disposing of them.

The pivotal role of the Country Manager
Wissam Allamy importance stemmed from his position as Iraq country manager of Global Clearance Solutions AG. His role was not only to supervise and guide the team but also to keenly coordinate with UNMAS and DMA as well. He played a significant role in building good relationships with the local community, which facilitated the clearance operation. In addition, he acted as a stern guardian of employee safety.

Challenges:
Despite significant progress made, continuous attacks by ISIS remain one of the primary challenges. However, thanks to thorough prep and effective coordination by Mr. Allamy and his team, the crew managed to carry out their work safely.

Outcomes:
As a result of the efforts, we saw safety being restored and locals returning to their places and farmlands. Iraq, specifically Sinjar and Tal Afar, became a shining example of nation-building post-conflict. In this process, Wissam Allamy and his team played a crucial part in achieving this success.
