Background:
In the wake of the conflict with the terrorist organization ISIS, the Sinjar district has become fraught with risks resulting from mines and war remnants. The residents of the district from the Yazidi sect fell victim to genocide at the hands of ISIS terrorists, a large number of them perished, and many have not been found to this day. After the war ended, the displaced people decided to return to their homes, but these dangers hindered the residents from returning to the areas they used to live in. Given this, a specialized team from Global Clearance Solutions was commissioned to remove these remnants and restore safety and stability.

Achievements:
In just one year, the project was able to clear many residential houses and markets, and get rid of hundreds of mines and war remnants. The team carried out the clearing, which helped restore safety and peace in the area, and enabled residents to return to their homes and normal lives. The places that have been cleared include:
1- Old Sinjar Market
2- Residential homes around the market 
3- Homes in the center of Sinjar district
4- Homes in Adnaniyah
5- Homes in Qahtaniyah
6- Factories, schools, and a police center
7- Residential land plots within the  neighborhoods and adjacent to the houses

Behind the scenes efforts:
We decided to give the people of Sinjar a significant role in clearing the Sinjar district of war remnants. We employed a lot of men and women in this project, with their number reaching more than fifty people with experience in searching and removing explosive devices. The mission of removing war remnants is one of the most dangerous jobs, where the workers risk their lives daily. Due to the massive risks associated with the mission, the team follows strict safety procedures and comprehensive training. The daily work included exploring the area, identifying the locations of war remnants, carefully removing them, then safely destroying them.

The pivotal role of Wissam Allamy:
The importance of Wissam Allamy comes from being the Iraq manager for Global Clearance Solutions. His role was not limited to supervising and guiding the team only, but it also included closely coordinating with UNMAS and also DMA. The special care for the employees from the Yazidi, taking care of their food and respecting their beliefs, providing everything they need, and respecting their religious holidays make them feel absolute respect, freedom at work, and pride as they are lifting the danger off their own and their families' homes. Mr. Wissam Allamy had a significant role in building good relations with the local community, which contributed to facilitating the clearing process. Moreover, he played the role of rigorous supervisor for employee safety.

Visitors reception:
As this district is very important to many countries worldwide because of the horrific genocide it had undergone. The ambassador of the German Federal Republic in Iraq visited the Sinjar district on 06/012/2022, these visits represented strong and psychological support to continue working. On 09/03/2023, the
Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock visited the Sinjar district with the German ambassador and met all the the Yazidi employees from Sinjar and promised them to offer full German support for the return of stability to this district.

Operational challenges:
Despite the great progress that's been made, the continuous attacks by the terrorist organization ISIS and also the continuous bombing from the Turkish army on the Turkish PKK that was living in the Sinjar Mountains were some of the major challenges faced by the working teams. With the constant presence of Mr. Wissam Allamy with the teams in the field, they played an important role in continuing to clear homes of war remnants. And also the coordination with the security agencies and the meetings with the army and the police, the team managed to continue working safely.

Results:
As a result of the efforts, we witnessed the restoration of security and residents returning to their areas and agricultural lands. Iraq, specifically the Sinjar district, has become wonderful examples of nation-building after conflicts. In this process, Wissam Allamy and his team played a decisive role in achieving this success.
